Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its list of students that were named to the Dean's List for the spring 2012 semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University's 122nd Commencement took place at the XL Center in Hartford on May 15. In all, 1,230 undergraduates and 88 graduate students earned their degrees.

Eighteen students and one faculty member at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the National Sociology Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Delta, on May 11.

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students have been participating in Pathways to Leadership, a tiered student leadership program series. The program has been developed based on Eastern's Strategic Planning Initiative to enhance on-campus culture by providing leadership training experiences for students. All Eastern students interested in developing leadership skills are invited to join the Pathways to Leadership program.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's American Marketing Association (AMA) Club. The AMA's mission is to develop the Eastern Chapter of the AMA into a resourceful and involved onganization by bringing prominent guest speakers to campus, sponsoring fundraising to support AMA events, participating in educational events, and performing community service.

One of the approximately 70 student clubs and organizations at Eastern Connecticut State University is Eastern's student chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The purpose of the chapter is to increase awareness of substandard housing on campus and in the community. Members benefit from gaining community service hours, learning construction skills, traveling, enhancing their resumes, meeting friends, becoming involved in the University's community and helping families suffering from poverty.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its list of full-time students who were named to the fall 2011 Dean's List.

American International College in Springfield, Mass., has named 450 students to the Fall 2011 Dean's List. Dean's List students are full-time students, with a grade point average between 3.3 and 4.0 for the semester.

More than 800 Eastern Connecticut State University students attended the 16th annual University's C.O.P.S. (Community-Oriented Policing for Students) Open Rec Night on Dec. 2. The evening is a substance-free event hosted by Eastern's Police Department. Open Rec Night provides Eastern students with an evening of fun and a chance to unwind in a safe setting prior to final exams. A number of students who belong to various student clubs and on-campus groups provide support services at the event.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Habitat for Humanity campus chapter held its annual "Shack-a-Thon" fundraiser over a 24-hour period from Oct. 26-27 in front of Webb Hall. The fundraiser was held to increase awareness of substandard housing in the Willimantic community.

Several local students are serving as resident assistants (RAs) at Eastern Connecticut State University this fall. Eastern has more than 70 RAs, students who are carefully selected and trained to help dormitory residents create an environment that is conducive to individual and social growth.

Students from Eastern Connecticut State University's Performing Arts Department performed "Ring Around the Bottle" as part of the Phoenix New Play Series on Oct. 8.

A record 303 Eastern Connecticut State University students have received ECSU Foundation's competitive scholarships in the 2011-12 academic year. The allotted scholarships total $334,000 in funds awarded through the ECSU Foundation's annual scholarship process.

More than 1,300 students, including first-time freshmen and transfer students, enrolled for the first time this fall at Eastern Connecticut State University. Christopher Dorsey, acting director of admissions at Eastern Connecticut State University, notes that Eastern freshmen come from 164 of Connecticut's 169 towns, from 24 other states and from 48 other countries.
